LOW HEIGHT & FLOATING DECK SYSTEMS

These aluminium joists are ideal for low-level deck builds where drainage, moisture or limited height clearance prevents the use of traditional timber framing.

Using our adjustable deck pedestals, the system can easily level uneven surfaces and create a perfectly flat deck structure over:

- Concrete slabs
- Existing pavers
- Waterproof membranes
- Natural ground
- Existing deck areas

The system is designed to “float” over waterproof membranes without penetrating them, making it ideal for rooftop and balcony applications.

It is also an excellent solution for covering old or uneven pavers without expensive demolition work.

DIY INSTALLATION NOTES

For DIY installations, aluminium joists must still be properly supported throughout the span like any structural decking sub-frame.

Generally, support spacing should be approximately every 400mm.

Some customers have advised that 600mm centres have worked for their particular applications, however this depends on the decking product, loading and overall deck design.

As an example, a 3m joist would normally require approximately 6–8 support points underneath.

You cannot lay joists directly onto dirt or grass without proper supports underneath.

Most projects use a combination of:

- Adjustable deck pedestals
- Existing posts or piers
- Packers or levelling plates
- Concrete supports

Please also follow your decking manufacturer’s specifications, as different decking boards may require different joist spacing requirements.

RUBBER JOIST MEMBRANE

To help reduce potential tapping or movement noise between the deck boards and aluminium joists, we recommend using our rubber joist membrane tape between the joist and decking boards.

We also supply 9 different pedestal riser heights to help you perfectly level your deck structure.
